Need to edit your essay and don't know where to start? In this video we'll share some general editing tips and provide a detailed example of what good editing looks like in practice.
In general, try to do a thorough edit after you've finished the first draft. Give yourself a bit of time before you start editing so that you can see your writing with new eyes. It's also a good idea to edit on a printed copy and to read parts of your writing aloud.
When you edit a specific paragraph, first focus on whether your writing is coherent. What is your main argument, and are all the individuals points and quotations connected to it? After that you can also ask yourself whether you've adequately proved your point or if you need to supply new or different evidence.
Once you're happy with the ideas expressed in your writing, that's when you should start editing specific sentences in terms of style and grammar.
