The New Essay “No Enemies” in Not-Two Is Peace, Introduced by Professor Leo Burke

One of the new essays in the fourth edition of Not-Two Is Peace by the World-Friend Adi Da is the essay “No Enemies”. In this essay, Adi Da explains that any attempt to achieve unity or peace by combining opposites or bringing opposing parties together is inevitably doomed not to work. What is necessary instead is to begin with our real condition, which Adi Da calls Prior Unity or the unity that is intrinsic to life. He points out that any strategy that is working in opposition to any force whatsoever will inevitably fail. The only principle that can work politically is one in which there is no opponent and no search to defeat an opponent, and, therefore, fundamentally no struggle.

Right human politics is simply about enacting or asserting and carrying out the principle of Prior Unity. This may strike some as utopian idealism, but as Adi Da points out, if we fundamentally understand that our real condition is Prior Unity and live on that basis, then all kinds of creative solutions emerge that otherwise just wouldn’t be there.

This essay contains remarkable wisdom for a world beset by division and conflict. Read it for free here: www.nottwoispeace.org/read
