The concept of “nation” is historically older than nationalism as a political movement. The English word nation comes from the Latin word “nasci” which literally means “to be born.”

Nationalism is a concept that involves a feeling of extremely strong attachment towards one’s own country. nationalism has transformed from one form to another throughout history. The core of nationalism is nation.

India is a country with a cultural, religious and linguistic diversity. Nationalism is the thread that binds people together with their different cultural-ethnic backgrounds in the form of unity.

It plays an important role in uniting all Indians from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.

The rise of nationalism took place in the 18th and 19th century in Europe, but even after two-and-a-half years old known history, the concept of Nationalism has proved to be very powerful and lasting.

Indeed, Indian nationalism is the result of a gradual development and has many forms, such as liberal nationalism, extremist nationalism, Populist nationalism or Gandhi era nationalism, and revolutionary nationalism.

India is a secular Nation. it has full freedom to believe in accordance with their own religion.

Seeing current politics, our political systems generating a serious challenge in front of nationalism for their selfish interests. political interest has given rise to political communalism.

There was a time when India was said to be the gold bird. We made the world knowledge of science to medicine, but even today we are a slave of illiteracy, communalism, gender discrimination and superstition. Even today, people are worried about education, health, employment and basic amenities in the country. The schemes made for the welfare of people are not being fulfilled in time. Naxalism and terrorism in the country have also been encouraged due to these problems. Which is harmful to nationalism.

Diversity is the characteristic of our country. The development of any territory is based on factors such as geography, religion, language, customs, political and economic development.

On this basis, during the British era, administrative areas or states were formed. It is natural for a person to have more attachment to his territory, but when other region feels that they are being ignored then the feeling of regionalism occurs. Which damages nationalism.

Due to the spirit of nationalism, Indians have the distinction of being in the world's largest democracy, which is known for their values of peace, humanity, brotherhood and collective progress.

For the progress of any nation, it is necessary for the citizens of the nation to have a feeling of nationalism. True nationalism is based on the ideal of 'Live and let live'. It recognises the freedom of all nations to preserve their distinct identity.
