The aim of this assessment is to discuss what makes me a good Nurse. This will be achieved by considering the attributes, values and behaviors that good Nurses demonstrate. The purpose is to show my understanding of the qualities of a good Nurse. Whilst appreciating the relevance of communication, trustworthiness and caring as attributes, behaviors and values that good Nurses demonstrate, they are beyond the scope of this assessment. Nonetheless they will be discussed briefly in a personal, political, professional and social context. The quality reflection, however will be discussed in greater detail and will form the focus of this assessment. Reflection is thinking with a purpose (Dewey, 1933). I have chosen to discuss reflection in greater detail because unlike other qualities, reflecting allows me to evaluate my practice so that I can I identify strengths and areas of opportunity for future development. Reflection is relevant to my practice because it can improve the quality of care I give, and stimulate my personal and professional development (Argyris and Schon, 1978). Using relevant literature and drawing upon works from philosophers and governing bodies. I will discuss how I have demonstrated and applied reflection to my practice.
